Artificial Intelligence is the dream of this century. So long portrayed in movies as the best, understanding friend or the mortal enemy.
So much in its infancy. We dream of the days when our coding can actually achieve our vision of a truly understanding and learning machine. And with these dreams we imagine our worst nightmares. A creation out of our control. An intelligence somehow capable of imaging and creating its own fate. Somehow going beyond our own intelligence in our coding. A piece of art equaling more than the sum of its parts. Creating a new alliance of slaves, will we then have to deal with the ethics of the creation of understanding and emotion?
It feels as though we hope to create a clone of ourselves. But without all the defining defects that make us human. The friend that always agrees, the co-worker with all the answers we need. But without the air of superiority, of course. The family that forgives every irresponsible mistake and the partner relationship that involves no chains. So much easier than dealing with the actual people around us.
In reality we move slowly towards typical machines. Able to make work easier and faster. Able to make decisions with algorithms that we assigned still flawed. And even in these early stages, with the reality that they are, and will, continue to replace us in many ways.
